Creating my kitchen entertainment center (Finished)

Yesterday I have decided not to attach the metal frame to the case, so my little project is finished. I have sort the cables with cable clips and made the final steps to mount it to the wall. 🙂 But look for yourself:

If you have any further questions or ideas, let me know. Maybe I will improve my kitchen entertainment center from time to time with some ideas from the internet or from your comments. 🙂

A small summary which components and software I used for this project:

Also look at my other blog posts to see the whole progress of this project:

Creating my kitchen entertainment center (Part 5)

Long time no update on this topic. But I have some good news to tell…’s nearly finished! 🙂 Just the frames around the case are missing, everything else is ready and it’s working right now in the kitchen.

The whole equipment inside the case is mounted with tape. I was really surprised how strong the tape is…really amazing. Back to the kitchen entertainment center, as you can see in the photos I have made a metal frame around the touchscreen to give them a little more polished look. The same frame will be added to all the edges of the case.

As you can see the touchscreen is mounted below the EEE 701, therefor I had to remove the keyboard from the EEE to have more cable to the screen controller, which is also mounted below the EEE. The final steps are now:

  • making the frames for the edges
  • sorting the cables with cable clips
  • mounting the kitchen entertainment center to the wall

I have made some photos of the UI, showing the main menu, digital clock and one of three possibilites during playback (the cassette is animated during playback and it’s printing the CD cover, title and artist name on the cassette).

Joined diaspora

Long time ago I have quit all social communities, because I didn’t want to share my datas with a company and their commercials. After a while I have started to microblog at and now I have joined diaspora after Andreas has told me about it. I have heard about diaspora in the past and thought that it’s just another social community website like every other out there and forgot it. But the concept behind diaspora (general information at Wikipedia) is great, so I have joined diaspora yesterday and start to be social again like in the past before I had quit my old accounts on the social communities pages.

My diaspora page is here:

Feel free to add me to your contacts. 😉

I have no more invitations, so don’t ask for it… 🙂 Now it’s up to the new ones to invite others…
